Totally In The Zone Table Tennis

2010-2011 Videos:

Kenneth playing in the U2050 event at the LA Open Table Tennis Tournament. Kenneth's opponent was up 2-0, when Kenneth was getting into a groove.  Unfortuately, Ken's momentum came a little too late and was defeated by his opponent with a good fight at 3-1.

This was a game of frustration, emotions as well as focus and composure.  As you can see from this game captured at the LA Open in 2011, a player that is emotional will typically "loose it" and not perform to his/her optimum.  This is when the frustrated player's opponent needs to collect his thoughts, be calm, and focus his energy on each point of the game until the entire match is over.  This is exactly what Ryan did - he was relaxed, composed, and focused.  This allowed Ryan to dominate this game with 11-0 score, and take the next two games to close the match with a 3-0 win. Ryan's opponent was very technically competent, however, the game was lost/won by emotions.

Ryan playing in the U2050 event against a chopper at the LA Open in 2011.  Patience is a virtual and it pays off with Ryan winning the match 3-0 as you will see.  Ryan's opponent (Mark G.) was a purely defensive player with excellent chopping skills.  Prior to this match, Ryan had been playing many offensive players for the last 5-hours (with a little more than a bathroom break between each player) before playing a defensive player.  The defensive player will typically provide situations for his opponent to make unforced errors as you will observe in many of the points.  With Ryan's patience to understand the amount of spin and location of the ball relative to the net, Ryan was able to overcome most of Mark's defensive hits to be successful in this match.
